This months Birch box was Fashion Week themed rather than the predictable Valentine's Day themed like other beauty boxes this month. Overall there were a good selection of products although not really suited to me. This is my issue with not only with this beauty box but beauty boxes in general, they are not tailor made to your beauty specifications as advertised. The best product of the box was the foundation sample but it just wasn't the right shade for me so is rendered useless... it is advertised as the lightest shade on the Birch Box website but in fact is the fourth darkest shade on the brands website. Although it's understandable that the company cannot individually pick shades for everyone, being able to offer the lightest or even second lightest shade for people who specify they are pale on their profile would not have been hard to do. I've read a lot of reviews of this months box and not one person said the foundation shade matched their skin tone, it was just too dark. It is such a shame because it would have been something I would have loved to try and maybe buy. Secondly I had an issue with the Sugar Lip balm. This is a great product and one that I really like, only I received the exact same one last month! Birch Box apparently employs an analysis team to prevent repeat products in boxes so it makes you wonder what they're getting paid for. I would have preferred instead the Korres shower gel that was the alternative option, this is something I have not tried and a brand I'd like to find out about. The Vichy thermal water is a simple yet useful product, a facial water is always useful to travel and this is handbag sized so it will be great for Summer/ Holiday months especially. The Nick Chavez root booster is a brand I've not heard of before and I'm always on the look out for volumizing products so I'll be keen to give this a try. This product is also handbag sized which is great. The eyelash curlers don't really seem that great (and I doubt they are really worth £10) but having a spare is always useful. Although I'd like to receive more makeup tool in beauty boxes, and feel this is a gap they are lacking, I get a bit disgruntled at having the companies pass off their cheaply made tools as part of one of the luxury products offered. Lastly in the box the Eboost supplement drink sachet. This is something I would not want to try, it looks as revolting as I've heard it tastes like. In general I'm not really keen on "health" products in boxes as I don't think they're great picks and hate the waste of having them included. I feel that should be an option to opt out of on the beauty profile. Overall though it is not a bad box, if the foundation shade had been more suited to my skin and I hadn't received a repeat product I would have said it was a great box. Hopefully we will see more great products from Birch Box in the future months.
